You'll be pleased to know you get rid of me for 4 weeks from 23/7 as I'm doing a sponsored walk. I'll be attempting the 630 mile South West Coast path, from Minehead in Somerset to Poole in Dorset, the long way round. To make sure I don't come back early, sponsor me at, www.justgiving.com/stutormey

Thanks and enjoy YOUR pre-season training.

    Stuart

I heard the sad news today that Trevor Parnicott has passed away. A true character and confirmed Beckenham 'Loon', possibly the first???, he had been a club member for more years than anyone can remember. He wrote the club history for our centenary and will be remembered for his great funraising cry 'a Pound for the Ground!!!' which he started when we did away with the football pitch and the rent that went with it.

He'll be sadly missed by me.

    RIP

Subject : Our jolly to Bournemouth... (written by Clev)

On Friday the 30th of May the elite Beckenham 7s squad drove down to Bournemouth for a weekend of scintillating rugby and what turned out to be revealing and non too flattering kits.

The friday night was spent clumsily erecting tents and feeding the local insect population, followed by light socialising whilst we inspected the other teams. Depressingly many seemed to be in their tents sipping lucozade, which was far removed from our preparation of beer and cider. Captain Reggie led the way busting out the Soulja Boy dance among others and the rest of the beer tent was left in awe of the teams cohesive drunkeness.
Saturday morning we awoke with "those ####ing Roosters" as one person put it which turned out to be Sailor. James Burtenshaw awoke to the smell of wee and Charlotte was greeted by a small welshman when she finally peeled herself off her air bed. The morning was mainly spent rehydrating and watching some great rugby being played on the main pitch. All apart from Patch who seemed to have contracted some sort of illness again and was unconscious in his tent.

The Ladies team begun their first game a few hours ealier than the men and took to the field with absolutely no sevens experience. However, they didn't let this hinder them and with new and returning players they took to the field in a combative mood. Although the results went against them the Ladies scored their first ever sevens try and got in their first ever sevens fight, so it wasn't a total loss. They definately enjoyed themselves despite being absolutely knackered. The men's team began to psych up as our first game drew nearer, when all of a sudden captain Reggie instructed us all to get our wallets and head to the canterbury Stand to acquire new shirts as ours were too small. Apparently. Due to our next match being an hour away and the lack of equipment at the stand we walked away, or in Jack's case sulked away, in glorious yellow vests. Our first game began well until 10 minutes in Reggie screaming down the wing fell and injured his knee badly. He was taken to the St Johns people and told he was out of the tournament. A big blow as it meant myself and Farmiloe had to play much more rugby than we had planned. The next two games passed and although we didn't win we were competative from start to finish and were not once embarassed. By my count we had 2 moral victories.

The evening was spent mainly in the beer tent in fancy dress. Winner of the best costume was Sam Forrest who arrived coated shoulder down in gold furniture laquer. When asked what he was he responded "I dunno, I didn't wanna be a pirate." The evening passed nicely with everyone getting along well, apart from Katie reduced to tears by one of the streetfighters. As the evening wore on and people became merrier we enjoyed the rides and the brilliant atmosphere. That night we also learnt of the dangers of being at the top of a drunk human pyramid around a certain permed man.

Sunday morning we woke to find out we had to play another game against the ominously named New Zealand Baa Baa Wasps. Our players fully refreshed and showing no signs what so ever of the previous night's excursions and attempted murders took to the field and fought valiantly against the big kiwi blokes. Lifted by the support conjured by Mr Matthew Yianni our boys pushed them to the very end of extra time. On the stroke of the final whistle the Kiwi's were awarded a penalty and opted to kick (BOOOO) ending our team's chances of winning the plate.
Momentarily downhearted we soon realised that meant we could start drinking now and proceded to take over the red bull tent for exactly that purpose. The evening was spent jumping beanbags, playing musical chairs, taking over the dj's decks, feeding the snake and swapping pants. The night was awesome and no-one got knocked out which is a bonus.

Monday morning the tents were collapsed and the wreckage surveyed through bleary eyes and pounding heads. The weekend had been amazing and a great way to finish the season off. We're very much looking forward to next year and the chance to get the kiwi's back.

Photos are now up in the gallery.
